Irish Coquia brings perimeter shooting and defensive length to the MBT backcourt
The UP Fighting Maroons Men's Basketball Team (MBT) has secured the commitment of Fil-Canadian guard Irish Coquia, a versatile scorer expected to strengthen the backcourt rotation for UAAP Season 90.
Coquia, who trained with development programs in Ontario before returning to the Philippines, brings perimeter shooting and defensive length that the coaching staff has prioritized in the off-season. He joins a core that returns the majority of last season's rotation.
"We've been intentional about building a backcourt that can defend and space the floor," the coaching staff shared. "Irish fits the identity we're building — disciplined, unselfish, and ready to compete."
The MBT resumes full team practices this month as the office finalizes the pre-season calendar. Fan and alumni support through the Season 90 Fund directly underwrites training, travel, and recovery for the roster.
